You will have to clean it up as soon as it comes out. Plain and simple!!! You may need to feed her a little more so she is not hungry enough to eat her poo.

With a-j we were told to give him a banana and it should stop him from doing that if we don't get there quick enough to pick it up. And we tried it and he never eats his own poop anymore and its ever since we have been giving him bananas.

they addressed this problem on the Dog Whisperer recently! we had a Chihuaha that did this too (but she went to a new home before we worked on the problem). Just like Darcey91 said, giving them a banana seemed to work! I think it is partly the texture is similar and also the dog is craving some mineral missing in the diet (potasium?). Banana might not work for all dogs but I think diverting the dog with something yummy when they are about to munch on the poop will help....you are going to have to work at it and clean it up quick!

Good luck! I would love to know how it all works out!

This may sound a little nuts but it has worked for us. Sprinkle Lawry's Seasoned Salt on the stool and your dog won't eat it.Problem here is you need to leave it lay around. But in some cases the gog looses intrest in it. and you can quit worring about it. It is worth a try.

Our yellow lab Lizzie has this problem and we have tried everything under the sun to stop it. I was told about the seasoned salt and even putting tobasco sauce on it, that only spiced it up for her. Adding pumpkin to her food, pineapple, or meat tenderizer, all of which did nothing. She only goes for it when it's fresh and warm. Which is fine when we're out there to pick it up right away. But there are times when we let them out by themselves and we can't always catch her. I think it is an ongoing battle. If we're out with her she knows to stay away, but as we all know our labs are pretty smart and awfully sneaky when they want something.
