It has been a while since I have posted concerning Bailey, now 26 months old. He has been a really good dog and the only downside is that he LICKS everything and everyone. We have tried bitter apple and all kinds of other stuff, but after a while you just get tired of spraying yourself down. I mean he licks hands, shoes, pants, shirt, tables, and the list goes on. He is great with our grand kids (4 and 2), as gentle as you could ever want a dog to be...BUT he can really get on your nerves. He also still thinks he is a lapdog

LOL, can't help with the lap dog, they all think they're lap dogs. Java does that, we try and redirect her, tell her no licking (altho that is suppose to be a sign that you're the pack leader, lol) give her a toy, etc.

Ok, I know how this is going to sound, but here goes. You can teach them to not lick as much. Jake was my licker, Ciara always has a "baby" (toy) in her mouth, so not so much licking there. When Jake would start the licking we would gently hold his mouth closed and repeat "no lick" several times while looking him straight in the eyes. It takes patience, a lot of it, but it worked with Jake. He will still lick, just not as much, and not as often. You just must be consistent with it and not let them go with one lick.
